Hello, I’m Amanda
I’m an award-winning, multilingual (Dutch, German and French) senior HR consultant and employment lawyer with a passion for great employee experience and culture.
I have worked in senior leadership roles for some notable brands including Virgin Media O2, Warner Bros Discovery, British Airways, Arriva Group, BT, Mitie, Barclays and Menzies Aviation during my corporate career as an HR director and solicitor. My time spent in legal practice has given me an excellent grounding in the legal issues that underpin HR matters in the workplace. This complements my HR career, where I’ve gained significant experience of running a business, making and executing business strategies, and implementing initiatives that drive employee engagement and cultural change.
These roles have given me international expertise in HR and related businesses strategies, with particular specialisms in:
• mergers and acquisitions
• change and transformation
• cultural change and employee experience
• employee and industrial relations, including negotiating with trade unions
• organisational design and restructuring
• TUPE, out/insourcing and off/onshoring

I advise businesses in multiple sectors in the UK and internationally, from large corporates to start ups, SMEs and not for profit organisations, using a variety of business models. I’m a motivational, empathetic leader, coach and trusted advisor who enjoys leading high performing teams and supporting people in achieving their potential.
Having been made redundant from my last corporate role in February 2020, I am now a self-employed HR consultant undertaking interim and project assignments for larger businesses, as well as HR consultancy for small and medium sized employers. I’m also a Partner at Spencer West Solicitors specialising in employment law, which I practise alongside my consulting work. This enables me to seamlessly advise clients when they require legal advice on employment law matters, as opposed to pure HR solutions.
An expert in employee rights, my work also includes advising employees on HR matters impacting their employment. I am a frequent commentator in the media on employment rights and topical employment issues.
I take a progressive, commercial and hands on approach to my work, am results-focused and love working in fast-paced environments. Treating people fairly and doing the right thing are extremely important to me, regardless of whether I’m working on behalf of employers or employees. I am also pragmatic and practical when resolving problems.
Outside of work, I have provided pro bono HR advice to Veterans Aid for over 10 years, and am an experienced school governor and charity trustee.
